EXPO 2025 Osaka, MUR's initiatives with universities and AFAM institutions

From 13 April to 13 October 2025, the World Expo 2025 will take place in Osaka, Japan. The theme of Expo “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” is an invitation to the international community to bring concrete solutions to realise of a sustainable society that supports the ideas of individuals and improves people's quality of life. Around 150 countries are expected to participate in the event and more than 28 million visitors are expected.

Italy will be present at the event with its own Pavilion designed by architect Mario Cucinella as a modern interpretation of the Ideal City of the Renaissance, with its theatre, porticoes, piazza and Italian-style garden, typical places of Italy's urban and social identity.
Italy's participation in Expo aims to expand and complete the image of Italy in the world through excellence, cutting-edge technology, scientific research, classical and contemporary works of art, design and craftsmanship, music and live daily performances. Expo 2025 Osaka will offer Italy a global stage for the integrated promotion of the country system and Made in Italy in the area of Asia Pacific.

The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) will be present at Expo 2025 Osaka with the events promoted by the Universities and AFAM Institutions following Notice no. 18 of 14 February 2024 for the selection and funding of project proposals consistent with the priority themes chosen for the Italian Pavilion. The aim of the initiative is to promote the Italian experiences of the university system, research and higher artistic, musical and dance education and to strengthen Italy's scientific, cultural and economic relations with Japan and the countries of the Asia-Pacific macro-region.

12 proposals have been selected and financed by the MUR to participate in Expo 2025 Osaka:

  • 7 from the University of Venice (Project MICA, Make Italian Culture Alive), Ferrara (Project PENTRER, Public Engagement for the ecological transition of Emilia-Romagna), Florence (Project T-Power), Milan Bicocca (Project 4UniverCity), Federico II of Naples (Project INARC, Italian National Research Centers), Urbino “Carlo Bo” (Project Bionet, Biodiversity-Net for Life), Turin Polytechnic (Project AIRONE, Airplanes and drones: the future of sustainable civil aviation mobility);
     
  • 5 from AFAM Institutions: Conservatory of Music of Venice (OCCA Project, Chamber Opera of Conservatories and Academies), Conservatory of Music of Ribera, Agrigento (Suite of Temples for Osaka 2025), Conservatory of Music of Nocera Terinese, Catanzaro (Duettango and Opera Project), Academy of Fine Arts of Rome (We one wave Project, Art and design for future lives) and Poliarte Institute of Ancona.

The programme of events involving the twelve selected institutions is being prepared and will be constantly updated on this website.
Concerts by the Baroque, Symphonic and Jazz Orchestras of the MUR are planned at Expo 2025 Osaka.
